League liquidity filter: Pinnacle betting limits

What the league liquidity filter does

Pinnacle publishes how much you can stake on each matchup, and those limits are a direct readout of market depth: the book allows big bets where it trusts its prices. This filter averages the closing max-bet limits per league and keeps only matchups from leagues whose average falls inside your band. A high minimum acts as a "major leagues" gate; a low maximum flips it into a niche-market finder. Leagues with no recorded limit are excluded outright.

Why liquidity is the honest league ranking

Everybody has an intuition about which leagues are "big", but intuition ages badly and varies by region. Betting limits do not: they are the bookmaker's own money-backed statement of confidence, updated continuously. High-liquidity leagues come with sharp prices, deep coverage and low margins, ideal when you want scale and trust in the odds. Low-liquidity leagues are where books hedge with wider margins and slower updates, which is exactly where informational edges survive longest, at the cost of noisier data and smaller stakes.

Example strategies

• Gate a totals strategy to high-liquidity leagues only, so every historical price in the backtest was sharp enough to trust.
• Deliberately target the lower-liquidity band with a form angle, accepting variance in exchange for softer prices, and compare both variants side by side.
