Best of X filter: Bo1, Bo3, Bo5 betting formats

The best of X filter keeps only matchups played in the series formats you select: Bo1, Bo3, Bo5 and beyond. Format drives variance, and variance drives value, in esports and tennis alike.

What the best of X filter does

Matches in esports and tennis are played as best-of-X series: the number of maps, sets or games needed to decide the winner. This filter keeps only matchups in the formats you select, and you can pick several, for example Bo3 or Bo5 together. In tennis, Bo3 applies across the tour while Bo5 appears at ATP Grand Slams; in esports, formats range from single-map Bo1s to Bo5 playoff series depending on the tournament stage.

Why format is a variance dial

The longer the series, the more often the better side wins: upsets that need one hot map in a Bo1 need to be sustained across three or five in longer formats. That makes format a direct variance control for bettors. Favorites are structurally safer in Bo5 than in Bo1 at comparable prices; underdogs are live in Bo1s in a way no single-map price fully captures. Tennis shows the same physics: five-set matches let the stronger, fitter player recover from a lost set, which is why Grand Slam favorites convert more often than their tour-level form suggests.

Example strategies

  • Back short-priced esports favorites only in Bo3 or longer, cutting out the Bo1 coin flips that quietly drain favorite-backing strategies.
  • Build a Grand Slam angle on Bo5 matches where the higher-ranked player is priced above 1.60, exploiting the format's favorite-friendly math.

Combining it with other filters

Format pairs naturally with scope: a group filter pins the esports title, CS2, Dota 2 or League of Legends, and in tennis the surface filter adds the court context that Bo5 slams are played on. An odds range keeps the price segment constant across formats so the backtest isolates the format effect itself. Best of X is available on the free Explorer plan.
