Season phase betting filter: early, mid, late

What the season phase filter does

The filter positions every matchup inside its league's own season span: the first quarter is early, the last quarter is late, and the half in between is mid. Pick any combination of phases. Season boundaries are detected from scheduling gaps, and for a season in progress the end is estimated from the league's previous season length. Competitions too short or sparse to have a real season, cups and one-week tournaments, carry no phase and never match, so the filter cannot be fooled by knockout calendars.

Why phases beat calendar months

A month filter asks about August; the season phase filter asks about "the opening quarter of this league's season", which lands in different months for European soccer, Scandinavian leagues or South American calendars. The phase is what actually drives behavior: early season means thin information, new squads and prices anchored to last year; late season means motivation asymmetries, relegation desperation, dead rubbers and rotation before finals. Those regimes repeat across leagues even though their dates never align, and only a league-aware phase definition can capture them all at once.

• Fade early-phase favorites across many leagues at once, exploiting the information-poor opening weeks without hand-picking months per league.
• Build a late-phase totals angle: end-of-season matches between safe mid-table teams drift over as defensive discipline relaxes.

Combining it with other filters

Phase is the temporal frame for the standings family: cross it with league standing or standing gap so the table context carries its full late-season meaning, or with the promoted team filter to study newcomers specifically in their difficult opening phase. Season phase is an Elite filter.
