Month betting filter: seasonality in backtests

What the month filter does

Select one or more calendar months and the strategy only considers matchups starting in them, evaluated in UTC. Pick August and September to study season openings in European soccer, or April and May to focus on run-ins and playoff pushes. Several months combine with OR logic.

Why seasonality matters in betting

Sports have rhythms, and markets do not always price them perfectly. Early-season matches are played on thin information: new signings, new managers, and models still anchored to last season. Late-season matches introduce motivation asymmetries, teams with nothing to play for against teams fighting for survival. Weather, fixture density and squad freshness all drift across the calendar too. A strategy that wins in October may bleed in May, and only a month split will show you. Transfer windows and international breaks add further monthly texture worth isolating.

Example strategies

• Fade early-season favorites in August, when prices lean heavily on last season's reputation and surprises are most common.
• Build a totals angle for the final two months of a league's season, when dead-rubber matches loosen up defensively.

Combining it with other filters

Calendar months are a blunt but universal tool; for a sharper, league-aware cut, the season phase filter detects each league's own early, mid and late phases instead of fixed months.
