Implied probability betting filter (no-vig odds)
The implied probability filter keeps matchups where an outcome's devigged opening probability falls inside your band. The bookmaker's margin is removed, so a threshold means the same thing in every league, unlike raw odds.
What the implied probability filter does
Raw odds contain the bookmaker's margin: the implied probabilities of a market's outcomes, 1 divided by the odds, sum past 100 percent. This filter removes that margin by renormalizing the opening probabilities by their book sum, then keeps matchups where your chosen outcome's devigged probability falls inside your band. On the moneyline you can target home, away, the draw, or the semantic favorite and underdog; on totals, an over or under side on a fixed line or on each matchup's own main line. Matchups missing any of the market's opening prices are excluded.
Why devigged probability beats raw odds
Odds of 1.80 do not mean the same thing everywhere: in a league with 2 percent vig they imply a stronger chance than in one with 7 percent, because more of the price is margin. Filtering on raw odds therefore selects slightly different bets in sharp and soft leagues, quietly skewing your sample. The devigged probability is the market's actual estimate of how often the outcome happens, comparable across every league and season. When your strategy logic is really about chance bands, favorites around 60 percent, live underdogs above 30 percent, this filter says it directly, where an odds range only approximates it.
Example strategies
- Keep outcomes the market rates between 40 and 55 percent, the balanced-matchup zone where situational filters have the most room to add edge.
- Build an underdog strategy on devigged probabilities of 25 to 35 percent, a consistent definition of "live underdog" across leagues with very different margins.
Combining it with other filters
Implied probability is the cleanest price anchor in the builder: set the band, then layer angles like rest advantage, a result streak or market divergence inside it, so every comparison happens within one probability segment. This is a Pro filter.
